Everything in life needs a plan. Everything. In case we do not do so, things get planned by default. Our work area being one of the defining elements of our lives, we need to pay extra attention to ensure that only the best plan is in place. That is, a plan that ensures for us the best career [entrepreneurship is also, we must remember, is a career!]. We go into some basic elements here that help us plan a winning career plan.
The SWOT analysis that you learnt, can very effectively be applied here. Your strengths and weaknesses, opportunities that emanate from it and the targets that are possible through these – all help you know yourself accurately enough to enable you to plan your career effectively.
Very interestingly, what is true in an individual’s case is equally true for an enterprise. Only, some of the dimensions take on different meanings. For example, every entrepreneur knows that planning is key to everything that is sacred to him/her. No entrepreneur ever starts without putting a meticulous plan in place. A start-up needs a plan. Deciding on how much capital the venture needs needs a plan. And how great his venture is also defined and decided by the quality of his plan. We will discuss these elements in our future columns.
