Mumbai May 8, 2012: VentureNursery, India’s first angel-backed start-up accelerator, today announced that it has received a very encouraging response to its call for applications for its inaugural boot camp as well as the ParallelTrack acceleration program.
The application process for the boot camp, that opened on April 1 and closed on April 23, 2012, has attracted over 100 applications from seventeen cities, with Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Delhi leading the list. While all the six sectors VentureNursery was inviting applications in have got strong responses, retail, consumer technology and e-business have drawn the most interest. 29% of the total number of application is from entrepreneurs who have been involved in at least one start-up in the past. There is a clear domination of male entrepreneurs in the applications received, with only half dozen businesses that have applied with a woman in the founding team.
Commented Apoorv Ranjan Sharma, Executive Vice President, VentureNursery, “It’s quite pleasing to get such a strong response from entrepreneurs from many cities. This reaffirms our conviction in the role of VentureNursery in mentoring start-ups and ideas.
We are screening the applications now and will interview promoters of shortlisted start-ups shortly.”
VentureNursery has also received nearly two dozen applications for its ParallelTrack program, which is meant for start-ups at a more advanced stage and who may not need to go through the entire 90 day boot camp.
