VC-SWOver time VC have had earned many adjectives like opportunist, dogged and even copyist. Start-ups have always feared of losing their great idea to VCs. No one knows of any such case of so-called idea piracy, but the rumour seems to be stronger than a truth. So all that young entrepreneurs are left to do is keep their ideas and nurture under their shade.

Speaking at the Startup Weekend Bangalore, on Jan 21, Sanjay Swamy Founder & Chairman Zip Dial, busted many such myths about VS and starting up a firm.  An affable, witty and talented founder of two famous companies; ZipDial and mCheck, Sanjay shared a lot of interesting one liner, which were important points to ponder upon.

Starting with the understanding the VC, he mentioned that a VC would not copy the idea, unless he finds the entrepreneur too incapable to pull it ahead, but it is still a good practice to keep the secret ingredient, a secret.

If time and again insisted on the importance of commitment, belief and passion more than money. Another important aspect was validation the idea. The chances of the success should be validated with market research, fact, and even friends. It was an interesting analogy of how consulting one’s wife helps in getting a new perspective, but partnering her as a co-founder might just lead to more problems than solutions. So when it comes to choosing your team, your co-founders entrepreneur must look at friends than relatively new and strange people.
